The finest modern Royal Navy warship and merchant ship drawings available
Question: Who or what provides the source of the information used in the plans? Are they derived from original shipbuilding drawings or are they independently produced? (I would assume that official drawings would still be classified).
Answer: They are independently produced, although I am not prepared to disclose where I obtain my information from or how the skills of perspective analysis etc can be used to deduce all sorts of things. Suffice it to say that in the early days the powers that be, unknown to me, had my drawings of HMS Sheffield vetted by the shipbuilder who later told me how surprised they were at the accuracy. I most cases I disclaim accuracy of underwater even when I know it to be correct; this because underwater detail is a sensitive area.
Question: Do the drawings represent the ships as originally completed or as they appeared later in their careers?
Answer: The catalogue specifies the date at which the ship is portrayed - I don't make reference to the original in service date.
Question: HMS Glasgow also appears at a scale of 1:96 as well as 1:192. Is there a difference in the level of detail shown and is it possible to view a preview before buying?
Answer: The drawings at different scales are all at the same date (the catalogue states that they are enlargements from, or reductions to, the 'as drawn' drawing.
Question: Given the recent launch of H.M.S Astute, do you have any plans to make drawings of this submarine or updated versions of H.M.S Trenchant, say such as H.M.S Trafalgar or Triumph?
Answer: HMS Astute is being drawn at this time and will be ready possibly in November. HMS Trenchant is drawn as 1999, the class includes HMS Trafalgar and HMS Triumph.
Question: Do you draw plans for customers as well? If so what are your prices? I would very much like to know what timescale such plans might be available.
Answer: I do not undertake commissions, as costing would be prohibitive when including months of research and information gathering, prior to the commencement of a drawing.
Question: Do you have a newsletter that informs me of new products?
Answer: Yes we do have a newsletter, you can subscribe to the JecobinPlans free newsletter and receive updates and news of new products and special offers, as and when they happen. Just create an account and subscribe, no purchase necessary.
